First off, we're really just glad you're here. If you're reading this it probably already means that you're our people. We are a blended family of 4 with two kids and we love travel & photography. Micah and I are always down for an adventure and we kind of like story telling if you couldn't already tell. So, if you want us to help tell your story or you just want to read other's stories... Congrats! you're in the right place!
I had the joy of getting to work with Katelyn and Joey a few weeks ago. Katelyn contacted me soon after they had gotten engaged asking about me photographing their wedding. That hardly seems out of the norm, except that Katelyn and I met when we were very young through a mutual friend. It’s been years since we have seen or even gotten to speak to each other. So for me, it was such an honor that she had kept up with my photography and chosen me to be the one to capture their special day.
I can go on and on about the two of these people. Their love for one another is evident by everything they say and do, but what’s more fascinating is, their love for God is overwhelmingly evident. Joey is a leader for Katelyn and I love seeing men be chivalrous and lead their wives in a day and age where equality has turned to pride and selfishness and men do the bare minimum to get by. Way to be, Joey.
Their ceremony was filled with sweet quiet moments of reflection, taking in the people who came to support them and choosing not to rush through such a significant moment in time.
Katelyn specifically requested an image with one of her favorite verses on love-1 Corinthians 13.
For those of you who may not know the verse it goes like this:
“13 If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecyand can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.”
You see, in these verses you will find at least 3 TRUTHS about love:
A lot of times people like to insert their name or the names of their significant others into this verse. Ie: Abigail is patient, Abigail is kind…(both things I am not very good at)
However, one other thing that we need to keep in mind is that the word “love” in these scriptures translates into Agape. Agape love is a selfless love. It is never ending. It is unconditional. It is the kind of love that God has for us. Most of the time, what the world considers love is actually lust. That love is called Eros and familial love is storge. Friendly love is philia.
The love referred to in these verses is AGAPE. This world knows little of agape and too much of eros.
However, Katelyn and Joey know agape. They are able to love each other because they know the God is Love. God is agape.
Their wedding was such a sweet reminder to me of the fact that no matter how great I am, how successful I become, how much money I make, if I do not have God(agape/love) I am nothing.
Thank you so much Katelyn and Joey for being examples of the truth in a dark world. You are being the city on the hill. You are shining light.
I hope the images from your day shine as bright as you do.
